Kid Fishing Day

Jackson County Parks and Recreation holds a kid’s fishing day in May at Jacomo Lake. Jackson Co. Parks and Rec has held this event for over 40 years to introduce families and kids to the outdoors. A great family event with over 150 kids participating. Kids get a free fishing rod and prizes for the different age groups. The MTFA-KC chapter along with the company Pure Fishing have supported this event.

Jackson Co. Parks and Recreation X-stream

Offers guided interpretive programs for schools and homeschool groups. From mid-April to mid-May, and mid-August; fifth grade classrooms. Interactive programs that include habitat hiking, fishing, fire starting and pond study. MTFA provides teachers for the fishing part of their program.

Blue River Rescue

Twenty-four years ago, a forward-thinking group of individuals formed the Friends of Lakeside Nature Center’s Stream Team #175. The group focuses on the urban Blue River in Kansas City, MO. The Blue River cuts across urban Kansas City and the river and its tributaries impact over one million residents. Project Blue River Rescue is one of the largest one-day stream cleanups in our state. We are proud to be associated with this endeavor.

Frontline Fly Fishing

MTFA-KC chapter is a proud sponsor of this program. A program devoted to the quality of life for first responders and military veterans through fly fishing and its related activities. The purpose is to promote physical and emotional healing through the camaraderie of fly-fishing outings, fly tying classes, rod building with instruction and education.
